When Miniskirts Attack…

Man, I don’t know how we missed this last week. Apparently Uganda’s Ethics and Integrity Minister (now that’s a ministry with an impressive mandate) is lobbying for a ban on miniskirts, because… wait for it… they’re a road safety hazard.

Minister Nsaba Buturo had this to say by way of explanation: “What’s wrong with a miniskirt? You can cause an accident because some of our people are weak mentally.”

Yes, mental weakness: A problem at the wheel and a problem in the government. I’m just not sure more conservative hemlines are going to fix this one…

  1. No one should be surprised by this sort of nonsense. It is exactly the same reasoning that underlies Islamic requirements that women conceal most or all of their bodies.
